The Localism Bill was first presented to Parliament in December 2010 and is currently being scrutinised and debated by House of Commons committees.  The Bill proposes the legislative foundation for the government’s decentralisation agenda, a shift of power from the state to communities-The Big Society.

We invite members of the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) to attend this free seminar to share and discuss their perspectives of the Localism Bill, for example,  the opportunities it might present, elements that are of concern, how some of the proposed reforms might work in practice etc. Speakers from Camden Council have also been invited to discuss their perspectives with the VCS and answer any questions you may have.

Seminar Plan
  • The Seminar will be split into 2 sections with the first hour dedicated to information and perspectives.
  • There will be an overview of the Bill proposals. Simone Hensby will talk about how VCS collaborative / strategic working can fit with localism agenda. Michael Parkes, a Kings Cross Railway Liaison Group Planning Worker (1990 - 2005) will present a neighbourhood/community planning perspective of the Bill.
  • Speakers from the Council will then have their opportunity to discuss the Localism Bill for around 10-15minutes each
  • The second session will focus on questions and debate raised from the first session.
CamdenCEN policy seminars over past months have revealed that people are quite confused by the high volume of information and change taking place so getting information, perspective and ideas is as important as the opportunity for debate.  This seminar will present you with the opportunity to scrutinise the Localism Bill and engage with other interested parties.
